Travel Ideas Magazine, issue 63

Our October / November issue is out!

Author and poet Edgar Albert Guest, also known as the People’s Poet, wrote inspirational and optimistic views of everyday life.  He once penned a metorical composition that went something like this:

“Somebody” said that it couldn’t be done

But he chuckle replied

That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one

Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin on his face.
If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing that couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Now that’s what I call a great poem, like an ode to the fact that if you really want to do something (go on a dream holiday or experience an experience that you’ve always wanted to experience), you probably could do it if you want it badly enough! So, with that thought in mind, start thinking about staying in a lodge in the Amazon jungle, or hiring a campervan and touring through Portugal at your own pace. “Plastic Fishing” along the canals of Amsterdam is big in Europe at the moment and gives one the opportunity of seeing the sights as well as helping to save the environment. There’s a special place in Inodensia that’s rated among the top places in the world to play amongst the nudibranchs. Maybe you want to completely desert yourself on what’s now known as “Robinson Crusoe Island”, a dot in the ocean, 700kms off the coast of Chile.

Also in this case, you can win yourself a HOLIDAY TO MAURITIUS valued at R60,000! The competition is easy to enter, it just takes one email, flgihts, accommodation, everything’s included, all sponsored by Mauritian Tourist Board. Airlink offers direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Port Elizabeth as well as from Cape Town and Durban to George, gateway to the Garden Route…and if you haven’t discovered all that Plettenberg Bay has to offer…read about this seaside wonderland right here in this issue.

I winged it through Mpumalanga and disovered what magic lies within this part of our country – it’s well worth an impromptu road trip and an easy destination to just “go with the flow”. Glamping is another buzz-word doing the rounds. It’s camping, per se, but in style. Off-the-grid accommodations in beautiful off-the-grid locations. Wigwams, gypsy caravans…you name it.

So…sit back and let Travel Ideas take you on a journey of discovery. Take advantage of reader offers too – and don’t forget to enter our competitions.

Cheers and happy travels.
